Sri Kadri Temple is situated 4 km away from Mangalore City at a rural place. The story related to this temple says, after donating everything to Brahamanas, Parashuram meditated to please Lord Shiva. Lord Shiva was pleased by his devotion and said, "Hey Parashuram, I abide at Suvarana Kadli Vana (Forest), please go and offer your prayers for me there".
When Parashuram looked at Suvarana Kadli Vana (Forest), it was immersed in the ocean (today's Arabian Sea) so offering prayer from there was not possible. Parashuram approached the Ocean King requesting him to leave the  Land of Kadli Vana but the Ocean King denied. Angry at the Ocean King, Parashuram took his Axe out, roared and threw the Axe in the Ocean.
